There is no business or other association between Winston Nutritional, and any Nutricia or Danone company, Plunket or Truby King – the references to those entities below are made purely in the context of a history of the Banks Road Manufacturing Plant and innovation in children’s health care in New Zealand.
In early 2016, Winston acquired Nutricia’s historic manufacturing plant located at 37 Banks Road in Mount Wellington, Auckland. Originally built in the early 1990s by Douglas Pharmaceutical, this is where renowned New Zealand infant formula powder brand, Karicare, was first produced, the origins of which are in the first powdered infant formula brand developed by legendary child health reformer and founder of Plunket, Sir Truby King.
As new owners of the manufacturing plant, Winston are continuing the high standard of manufacturing at the site and with the installation and implementation of advanced new machinery and technology, Winston have built on this legacy even further.

New Zealand has an outstanding history of innovation in children’s health and nutrition, of which Winston Nutritional is the latest chapter.
This history stretches back to the 19th Century and the renowned Sir Truby King, creator of NZ’s first manufactured infant formula.
Sir Truby’s formulas saved the lives of thousands of malnourished babies and through the good works of his Plunket Society, significantly reduced infant mortality rates.
Sir Truby’s challenge was to educate and innovate to improve infant and childhood health outcomes, and in 1986 the Plunket Society licensed Douglas Pharmaceuticals to produce Sir Truby-inspired milk.

NZ’s proud history of innovation was continued in 1995, with the importation of state-of-the-art technology for the new industry-leading Banks Road infant formula production facility in Auckland and the launch of Karicare followed. In 2007, this factory became part of a world-famous group giving New Zealand access to world leading technology in infant nutritional product manufacturing.
As new owner of the Banks Road production facility Winston Nutritional now aims to continue Sir Truby’s legacy of infant and children’s welfare. It bought the plant in March 2016 to this end and plans a substantial investment and modernisation programme.
Winston Nutritional is committed to putting Sir Truby’s inspirational message of good health for all children back on the world stage.
